LUMIX WORKSHOP
by Karen Pecota

The professional camera company LUMIX presented several workshops during the festival, and it included a special drawing to win their latest camera model for filmmaking. As soon as the schedule was available, every slot was immediately requested. The company basically shared the newest technology in cameras for filming since most of the attendees at the festival were involved in the industry. A festival “Byfilmmakers, for filmmakers is their motto!

So, the attraction would be how one could best use a LUMIX camera to make the best film or still photography possible.

I took the workshop with Jason, a videographer from Seattle who was familiar with the cameras but did not own one. Neil, the LUMIX professional at the festival, gave us a few tips on how to work with the newest model. We then attempted to learn-by-doing and had a chance to practice with their cameras. It didn’t seem like much of a workshop in the sense that note taking would be helpful…it was more hands-on.

As this was the first venture to showcase their wares at a film festival, Neil felt like this was a productive use of their time and be of service to experienced and inexperienced filmmakers alike.
