Film Review: CONFESSIONS OF A JUMBOTRON ADDICT
by Karen Pecota

Mickey Duzyj | United States | 2024

During an intense Brooklyn Nets basketball game, filmmaker and sports fan, Mickey Duzyj, figures out how to get himself showcased on the events’ Jumbotron to inspire the crowd to rally in support of their team. Duzyj used his crazy dance moves in an open section to be spotted by the cinematography team and it worked, he immediately went up on the events’ big screen. Duzyi shares his secret that he used to create a fan-based energetic atmosphere in CONFESSIONS OF A JUMBOTRON ADDICT.

IF you are wondering, a Jumbotron is a giant screen typically used and seen in large venues like stadium and arenas to bring a subject closer to the eye for viewing. One would see this visual aid today in sports events, concerts, festivals, etc. You will also find Jumbotrons in public areas like Times Square in New York City where it displays huge ads.

During the Tribeca 2024 film festival talk series, I was waiting for the event with film stars, Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin to talk about their collaboration on the film A REAL PAIN (see my review for their film in my Sundance 2024 Film Festival coverage), the director Mickey Duzyj and his producer of CONFESSIONS OF A JUMBOTRON ADDICT sat next to me.

I had the privilege of speaking with the two about the festival, their short film and the film by Eisenberg and Culkin. Our conversation was lively and most enjoyable. I was excited to screen his film and hoped it would be a fun one to review. I was not disappointed as the film exemplified his personality that I witnessed. I knew right away this would be in my coverage. It was a surprise discovery and a connection worth sharing!
