R.E.D. 2, sequel to the hugely successful 2010 action-comedy R.E.D., is not only as good as the first, it’s even better, moving faster, with funnier lines and tongue-in-cheek play on the genre of action films. Aside from Bruce Willis as Frank Moses, the draw is once again a stellar team of actors not usually cast for action films: John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Brian Cox, Mary-Louise Parker, plus Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins.
Retired & Extremely Dangerous ex-CIA agent Frank Moses and his girlfriend Sarah (Parker) are shopping at Costco, when his old buddy Marvin (Malkovich – in a hilarious scene) approaches Frank in the power-tool department and warns him of eminent danger. Frank’s knowledge of a top-secret super-bomb, invented by crazy scientist Bailey (Hopkins), makes him a ‘most wanted’ to a number of ‘power players’ who all want to get their hands on this weapon that mysteriously disappeared decades ago. To save his skin and mankind’s, Frank needs help. Who can be trusted aside from his enthusiastic, yet still ‘action inexperienced’ girlfriend? (Carola A)
