Sixteen years ago director Christian Zübert made the film Lammbock (with an a). This featured Lucas Gregorowicz, then age 25, and Moritz Bleibtreu, then age 30. They played young Stefan and Kai respectively, who opened a pizzeria in Würzburg. They sold pizza, but it was actually a front for growing and trading marijuana. They spend much time smoking joints. Now Zübert is back with a sequel called Lommbock (with an o). Stefan has become a successful lawyer in Dubai. He plans to marry a beautiful business woman (who comes with a rich father), but must return to Germany to pick up his birth certificate for the marriage certificate He promises a quick return to Dubai, which naturally doesn’t happen. (Otherwise, there would be no film, right?) He meets up with his old friend Kai and they pick up where they left off, acting like irresponsible youngsters and smoking pot all over again. They are true friends, willing to do anything for the other.
The film is light-hearted and will probably appeal to a younger audience. It is especially interesting, if you have had the chance to see the 2001 version and can compare Gregorowicz and Bleibtreu 16 years later, now 41 and 46 years old, respectively. Are they believable as irresponsible hippies? Today both actors enjoy successful careers: Gregorowicz in cinema, but mostly in television, and Bleibtreu with more than 70 films to his credit.
