Thorny, Farva, Mac, Foster, and Rabbit (played by the five actors indicated above) are members of the Vermont Highway Patrol on the US border to Canada. Suddenly their territory has been extended to include part of Canada, which they must also patrol. The guys put on their police uniforms (in which they look more handsome, than when lounging around during free time) and check out the area. The Canadians – both the residents, as well as the local Mounted Police in red uniforms, are not amused and refuse to cooperate. They dislike Americans and don’t wish to lose their identity to them. The Americans find speaking French a challenge, as well as deciphering centimeters and kilometers, not to mention, having to cope with a bear in their new quarters. Then they discover huge supplies of cigars, drugs, and mobile phones, which obviously were to be smuggled into the US. This is no longer necessary, since now they are “in” America due to the change in borders.
Super Troopers II is a sequel of the film which first showed in 2001. It was created by the five main actors who, in real life, comprise a popular comedy group called Broken Lizard, which was formed in 1990 while all were attending college. Here it’s all slapstick about each other’s mustaches, shaving one guy’s crotch, sleeping on the job, etc. Good-looking Rob Lowe plays the town’s mayor and seems to have his hand in every business deal, when not grabbing a penis in a strip club. If you need a break from daily chores, a chance to sit back and forget responsibilities for 99 minutes, this might be the answer. The action never rises above worn-out clichés and nakedness, although it might be a tad more humorous in the original English; I saw it in German. If nothing else, the 24 songs successfully carry along the action. Filmed in Massachusetts, USA. (Becky Tan)
