After living 15 years on the Cote d’Azur, Sandra (Cécile de France), moves back in with her mother in her hometown in the north of France, where she had grown up, even becoming the town beauty queen. She seems to have no real talents otherwise, and starts work in a fish factory, peeling mackerels to go into cans. She forms a trio with new friends Nadine (Yolande Moreau) and Marilyn (Audrey Lamy). All is well until she kills her boss Jean-Marie by mistake. He grabbed her intimately once too many times; she fought back and he fell and died. Too bad, how sad, but now it begins to be funny. Nadine and Marilyn stand by Sandra and together they dispose of the corpse in a perfect place where it will never ever be suspected, much less discovered. We are in a fish factory after all. In addition, they clean out his bank safe, which—surprise, surprise—happens to be full of money which they joyously divide among themselves, while Police Inspector Digne searches for Simon, as does Belgium gangster Simon, who had been working with Jean illegally. In all of this confusion, why not add on another swerve: Sandra learns who her father is.
What can I say? This is a French film after all. Maybe you will even find something to enjoy. (Becky Tan)
