Being a caregiver has its challenges as we have a small glimpse of Grace’s (Catherine Walker) life. She finds herself in therapy but is unable to access her emotions as she struggles through her relationship with her aged father Howard (James Cosmo). The house by the sea seems to be a fitting place for the retired sailor and widow, but a closer look at this visual landscape reveals feelings of isolation, betrayal, and fear he holds close to himself. In the midst of her desperation, Grace hires a mature caretaker Annie (Bríd Brennan) to relieve her of the heavy workload. Annie, who embraces this challenge, arrives like a fresh spring rain, ready to clear up all old feelings and memories. But from the first moment Annie is now faced with a complex father-daughter relationship which must be handled with grace to avoid landing in the hidden field of the emotional landmines. She does her best to organize the household, attempting to find peace for all concerned. For anyone dealing with caregiving, this film gives insights into many aspects of caregiving as well as its pitfalls. It is truly a film that should not be missed by anyone dealing with elderly family members. (Shelly Schoeneshoefer)
