Do you buy lottery tickets? I was introduced to the “sport” when I first moved to Germany. I bought tickets three times and the third time I won the exact sum which all three tickets had originally cost. I saw this as a “sign of fate” and decided to quit.
Here in our film, lottery tickets are also signs of fate and what appears to be great luck ends in disasters: explosions, car crashes, death, prison, you name it. Paul (Fabrice Eboué) is driving to his grandma’s house, accompanied by his wife Louise (Audrey Lamy) and their two children, when he realizes that he has won five million, but he must pick up the money now. He cancels on grandma and turns around towards the lottery office. Julie (Pauline Clément) wins ten million. She attempts to impress Thomas (Victor Meutelet) without him knowing that she is rich. Farid (Illyès Salah), Ahmed (Sami Outalbali) and Omar are two brothers and a friend with dark hair and beards. Ahmed wins 40 million. Henri is an elderly man who collapses due to a heart attack. His caregiver finds and keeps his lottery ticket worth 60 million. She is accompanied by four other females who wish to participate, which turns out to be an unfortunate decision.
In our film about four lottery winners, the German title translates to “Six Correct Numbers” with a subtitle meaning “Good Luck is Not for Beginners.” Enjoy the excellent actors, as well as the plot, which gives us much to think about. (Becky Tan)
