Captain America, i.e., Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), is on his way to talk to the new US president Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford). The topic of discussion will be a certain kind of metal called adamantium which the whole world wishes to acquire. The new Celestial Island plays a role as the source of adamantium. Captain America is accompanied by young Joaquin Torres, also known as Falcon (Danny Ramirez). “On their way” means flying on their own wings. Another man, Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), has a hatred for President Ross, after having spent thirty years innocently in prison. Ross has a second personality: the Red Hulk, and he also eventually lands in prison. The prime minister of Japan, Ozaki (Takehiro Hira), attempts to find a solution to his own advantage.

Captain America is a figure which first appeared in 1940 in Marvel Comics. This is the thirty-fifth MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) film. Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth full-length film in Marvel’s Captain America cinema series which started in 2011. Captain America is dressed in red, white, and blue (except when he’s dressed in a suit to visit the White House) and carries a shield of the same color. He has huge wings which he can fold up behind his back when not in the air. Ross seems very familiar to a real-life, standing US president of these times (2025), quite determined to satisfy his own personal wishes. The plot rests on fights or battles, between individuals or groups, in homes, in church, in the woods, everywhere. Fighting is communication. There are many references to the Avengers, which “should be rebuilt.” This is an action film, although the “action” seems to be based entirely on fighting—perhaps a film for young boys and men. We can all look forward to a fifth version, which is already promised. (Becky Tan)
