At first the unlikely herd of different animals we’ve come to know in the two preceding films is still one happy family: the mammoth Ellie is pregnant and the other animals can’t wait to welcome the new baby into the world. Proud father Manny is so busy building a playground and making nature childproof that tiger Diego and Sid, the sloth, feel left out. Sid wants to start his own family and “adopts” (or steals) three huge eggs. Before long Sid is the single mother of three cute baby dinosaurs, who don’t know the difference between a playmate and a snack. When mother dinosaur shows up to get her babies back, she also takes Sid with her. Now his friends must try to rescue him. Of course, a certain saber-toothed squirrel and an acorn also play an important part in Ice Age 3.

Directed by Carlos Saldanha and Mike Thurmeier, the animated Dawn of the Dinosaurs is just as much fun to watch as the first two Ice Age films. A good story, lovable characters and lots of funny ideas make Ice Age 3 a great movie event for the whole family. (Christa Greiff)
