Film Review: CREATING THINGS
by Karen Pecota

Bryan Simpson, Taylor Simpson, USA 2022

The Simpson brothers share a heartwarming story about their father, Roger Simpson that came to light after he had passed away in 2016.

Unbeknownst to the boys, their dad was interviewed in 2014, by his friend, Peter, a year after being diagnosed with cancer. Since grade school, Roger's passion was creating art. At a young age, Roger doodled a lot and was constantly experimenting with his craft.

After Roger had passed, a recording from this interview was discovered. What the brothers unveiled was a family legacy they will forever cherish. They showcase Roger's endearing legacy in CREATING THINGS. Roger's verbal explanation of the significance art played in his life accompanied with pictures of his incredible artwork was in no way a comparison to what he says is the ultimate work of art—creating human life and becoming a father. Roger communicates in the interview that the birth of his children was the most incredible moment in his creative life; and, then to love them and watch them grow was the most impactful.

Roger's voice along with images of his art gives his two sons, Bryan and Taylor, a personal gift and a loving legacy of their dad because creating things was the joy that encompassed his life.
