Tribeca FF 2014 Films, On Your Radar: Fishtail
by Karen Pecota

The cowboys from Fishtail Basin Ranch in Montana share about their life during calving season - the month when cows give birth. The rugged West has its tender moments, one of which is watching a calf being born. Or, observing the calves first moments being in a new world. Or, the calculated efforts it takes to track and protect a herd. Incredibly endearing!

Filmmakers Andrew Renzi and Tylee Abbott take their expertise in the Arts to combine the use of cinematography, music and poetry to portray the unique beauty of a cattle rancher. The daily grind is captured with breathtaking visuals that one can almost imagine the actual smells of the ranch. Cowboys out with Mother Nature, raising cattle. It\'s a peaceful way of life. They are happy.

Renzi adds creativity to his intense visual imagery with the help of famed actor Harry Dean Stanton. Narrating writings from Rick Bass and Walt Whitman throughout Renzi's Fishtail, Stanton emphasizes a call to love the land and its inhabitants--preserve, fight for and protect. He narrates, "It's wild to one's own heart and if it's wild it is still free, so dedicate your life to it!"

The young family at Fishtail Basin Ranch lives happily ever after.
