Brenda Benthien

Brenda Benthien is based in Hamburg, where she edits and translates film subtitles, scripts, and other film-related texts from German to English. Brenda is the former Guest Relations Director of the Cleveland International Film Festival and works seasonally at the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck. She was involved with starting up AFI Fest in Los Angeles and has also lived and worked in Munich and Tokyo.

Brenda has translated two classics of film theory: Rudolf Arnheim’s Film Essays and Criticism and Rudolf Kurtz’s Expressionism and Film. She also writes book reviews for the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television and runs the Hamburg Review website, a critical compendium of writings on film and literature.
