The Accountant (2016) is one of my favorite American action thrillers. It is one of those fast-paced films with a cleverly written script and a dark sense of humor. The main character is Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), an autistic Certified Public Accountant hitman and a most likeable character. The first film reveals his past, starting with his childhood and his long-term friendships with children at a neuroscience institute that helped him overcome his social difficulties.
So naturally, when The Accountant 2 came out, I was excited to check it out, but also worried it may not live up to the first one. The Accountant 2 certainly kept me entertained. That being said, it had a different flavor then the first film. It starts with an assassination of an agent and friend of MaryBeth Medina (Cynthia Addia-Robinson). When she realizes that the case is too complicated and deadly, she calls the only possible agent that could help her, The Accountant. Unfortunately, Wolff decides to include his estranged but lethal brother Brax (Jon Bernthal), since the job is too big for him. Like most action thrillers, there are plenty of settings, many villains, and people who need to be rescued. The film is full of action, and the dark humor which made the first installment so enjoyable is back again, resulting in an entertaining cinematic experience. (Shelly Schoeneshoefer)
